Local Area

To further extend your outdoor fun, the South Hill Recreation Way is a 3.3 mile walking/biking trail less than ½ mile from our front door.

www.traillink.com The South Hill Recreation Way follows the southern rim of the Six Mile Creek gorge from the outskirts of southeast Ithaca to Burns Road, near the Ithaca Reservoir. The gravel path follows the former grade of the Cayuga and Susquehanna, built in 1849 to haul coal from Pennsylvania to a canal in Ithaca. The rail later merged with the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad, abandoned in 1957. The trail was developed in 1986 as an Environmental Quality Bond Act Project.

Today the trail meanders through a combination of residential neighborhoods, meadows and woodlands, crossing several deep ravines and offering scenic views across the Six Mile Creek valley. Part of the route passes through the Mulholland Wildflower Preserve and Vincenzo Iacovelli Park, providing access to those sites and the Six Mile Creek gorge itself. Hiking paths lead off the biking trail into the gorge.

The Finger Lakes region of upstate New York is well known for stunning scenery, expansive lakes, gorges, waterfalls and scenic wine trails. We are surrounded by more than 80 wineries encompassed largely within three distinct Wine Trails around Seneca, Cayuga and Keuka Lakes. Wine tasting is a favorite pastime of visitors, who return often to replenish their collections. There are outdoor recreational and sports activities for each of our four beautiful seasons. Enjoy golfing, hiking, nearby waterfalls, birding, boating, swimming and lake cruises.

ITHACA is a wonderful small city that is only a 2 minute drive from our door. Visit Cornell University and Ithaca College campuses, discover the Discovery Trail of area museums, stroll the Ithaca Commons and the unique boutique shops, numerous restaurants and attend performances at the many theatre venues throughout the area. Our wonderful Farmer's Market is on the Inlet to Cayuga Lake featuring local produce, crafts, and more.
